Interpretation ~
All manner of the human race are represented here in this card - men, women and children. Death is not a respecter of age, race or gender. However, Death is nothing more than a change, a transition from one world into the next and the sun, rising in the background, represents that. The sun appears to 'die' every night - but every morning it is reborn once again. Whenever we see this card it is not to be feared, but embraced, as it teaches us to let go of outworn and outgrown ways of life and move forward. Death is a clearing away of the old to make ready for the new. Each moment of our lives, one part of it dies to the present - so that the future can unfold.
The Death card represents:
- an important ending that will initiate great change
- the end of an era
- one door is closing....another opens...
- 'riding out your fate' and seeing where it takes you
- letting go of unhealthy attachments
- a 'change of heart' concerning relationship issues
- old ideas and / or habits will be shed and new ones will take their place
- new possibilities
- feeling 'transformed' - a new you will emerge
- sweeping changes which you must accept in order to move on
- The Death card says - remember the positive message of this card - this is not a time for despair. Something has become outworn and outdated and is no longer useful to you. It is the ending of one chapter only, in your 'book of life'...time to turn the page....what exciting new possibilities wait for you there...?
Meditation
This card often has a bad reputation but actually, this is a wonderful card to have in any reading as it signifies a time of great and ultimately positive change. These changes are often inward changes, as in changing your mind about something or some one, changing your view on the world and having a different perspective; and often this change is deeper, as in making a concerted effort to change some aspect of your self which you feel is no longer positive. Phrases like - change of heart, change of attitude, change of habit, change of mind, all herald exciting beginnings and the possibility of a totally new way of life. First shed the old, in order to make way for the new. Such sweeping changes may seem drastic at first, but these new ways will bring about the next important phase of your life.
Every day take some time out to reflect on ways in which you feel you could change - either inwardly as in examining aspects of your 'self' [bad habits which you keep returning to time and again] or externally, as in remaining locked in the past where some situations are now outworn and outdated. Do you need a fresh perspective on an old problem? Do you feel that you are stuck in your old ways? Is there something which is no longer fruitful or productive in your life? Is something coming to an end and you are reluctant to let it go? Clinging to the past will not help you move forward. Embrace the changes which the rider on the pale horse brings and move fearlessly into a bright and exciting new future.
